Giannis Spantis has been a specialist in designing and manufacturing genuine leather bags,
wallets, belts, and an array of accessories since 1988.
Starting in 2004 he has been running his own workshop in the old town of Rethymno
where he brings together traditional leathercraft techniques with modern, sustainable designs and ideas.
From the initial sketch, to the selection of the materials, to cutting and sewing,
everything is planned to ensure products that transcend time and trends and only grow more beautiful with age.

Aiming at products that are ethically sourced and responsibly made the selected cowhide for all of his crafts is vegetable tanned,
an organic method of processing leather. This process creates beautiful earth tones and ensures the leather’s density, firmness,
and durability. Hand rubbed aniline soluble dyes are applied to accentuate the beauty of the grain,
providing each piece with beautiful shading and unique subtle colour variations.

Respecting this valuable natural material by using the entirety of the hide,
every item is finished with a distinctive hand saddle stitch made out of smaller leather pieces.
To highlight the characteristics and the natural quality of the leather, shellac,
a natural anti-allergic and water repellent resin, is applied for polishing and stabilizing.
The goal is to preserve the excellence of raw materials and to ensure that the end product is of high quality
and in accordance with customer’s expectations.
